| | |  TiVo Tip: A Basic Way to Save Space Remember the old days of VHS tape and how you could record more or less shows by choosing the speed (LP or SP). Similarly, you can increase the available space on your TiVo DVR by adjusting the quality of your recordings. You can do this a few different ways: – Change your default recording setting: From TiVo Central, select Messages & Settings; then Settings; then Recording; and then Recording Quality. This screen also shows you how many hours of programs you could store if you recorded all programs at the same quality level. – Select a recording quality at the time you schedule a recording: From the recording screen, choose Options, then the quality setting. – Change the quality for recordings you have already scheduled: From the To Do List, select the program, and then Options. The higher the quality the more space required, so experiment to find the quality settings that you prefer. You may find you don’t mind watching The Daily Show in Basic quality, whereas your HD games always deserve Best. This table shows suggested quality settings for common types of programs.

Survey says you’re still not taking full advantage of one of TiVo’s best features: the WishList search. There is no better way to personalize your TV experience, so grab that remote and customize. From TiVo Central, select Find Programs, then Create a WishList search, and then…: | Try: | | Why: | | Category: Comedy/Sub-category: Standup | | Fill ‘er up with funnies! | | Keyword: SHARK* & Documentary/Animals | | See what bites. | | Actor: EASTWOOD, CLINT | | Feel the Absolute Power of TiVo. | | Keyword: LEMON/Interests/Cooking | | Lemonade is just the beginning. |
Once you create your search term, you can choose to “View upcoming episodes” every 14 days or so, or set it to auto-record every match. And if you’ve got good suggestions to share, send ‘em to Shanan.
Bonus Tip: Use asterisks when you’re looking for a range of similar words, or are uncertain how to spell a word. For example, the keyword AIRP* will find shows containing airport, airplane, or airplanes, as well as the movie Airplane! Use the SLOW button to enter an asterisk. Back to top | |

| | |  TiVo Fan MailWhen my sister and her husband were weeks away from welcoming their first baby into the house, I ordered a TiVo Series2 box to give to them as a slightly non-traditional baby shower gift. I had it shipped to me so that I could pre-load it with an assortment of baby-care and new-mommy shows along with some contemporary movies. After they received it, I learned my predictions had come true. She was able to enjoy her shows even in bits and pieces and across midnight feeding hours. He was able to catch up on his shows, too, even though as a police officer, his schedule was often erratic and did not make it easy for him to stay tuned to weekly series. They’re so pleased with TiVo when the little one is old enough, I’ll have to be the good Uncle who buys them a WeeMote! Thanks, TiVo!
