I recently posted about the future of air traffic control and all of the improvements that are in the pipeline. The updates to our air traffic control systems will have far reaching effects – increasing airspace and airport capacity, reducing fuel burn and greenhouse gas emissions, decreasing noise for airport neighbors, etc. – all while making flying safer. I went on a bit in that post about these systems.
Well, I’m still catching up a bit on some of my RSS feeds from my honeymoon last month and one of those feeds is Lockheed Martin’s YouTube channel, where I discovered they’ve posted several videos that nicely explain these improvements. They cover NextGen Flight Services, which is the name for the FAA’s plans to upgrade the US air traffic control system. I think these videos are easy to understand and really do a good job in explaining the benefits.
I’m amused by how closely these videos match what I wrote in my earlier post.
